Haystack Historical Society Vision
The Haystack Historical Society was established in 1981. The original Vision of the Society remains the same today.
- Providing opportunities to learn about the history of the tri-town area.
- Establishing the Old Mill School Museum
- Dissemeninating historical information about the tri-town area.
The Society's special exhibits and activities include:
- Restoring the Old Mill School
- Displaying historical items particular to Castle Hill, Chapman and Mapleton
- Household items of yesteryear
- Small farm implements and tools
- Antique and historical photographs and their restoration
- Preservation of historic documents
- Annual Northern Maine Fair Exhibit
- Historical information from Mapleton High School and the small country schools of the area
- Collaborative work with other historical organizations
- Work with local historians and their research and writings
The Museum: Is located in the retored Old Mill School in Mapleton, Maine and is open to the public. The Museum is open to the public every summer Saturday starting with Mapleton Daze in June through the last Saturday in August. Visitors are always welcome and there are No Admission Fees.
Monthly Meetings: are on the fourth Monday, March through November at 7:00 PM. Vistors and those wishing to join are always welcome.
Funding: The Society fundraises its operating costs with an annual dinner auction and a pie and ice cream sale. Donations are gratefully accepted. A grant from the Maine Community Foundation supports the collaborative work of the society with other historical organizations in Aroostook County.
